SCC reviews SSEF’s works in caring for orphans

The Family Affairs Committee of the Sharjah Consultative Council received a briefing on June 1, 2024, regarding the activities of the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation (SSEF) and its dedicated efforts towards caring for orphans in Sharjah. As part of its ongoing review of government institutions’ efforts in family care, the committee invited the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation to participate in a joint meeting. This meeting formed part of the committee’s regular session during the first legislative term, part of a series of engagements with various government entities aimed at developing initiatives, fostering collaboration, and discussing frameworks for enhancing services to the people of Sharjah.

Chairing the meeting was His Excellency Saeed Mattar bin Hamed Al Tunaiji, alongside committee members including His Excellency Abdullah Al Badawi Al Housani, His Excellency Abdullah Ma’dan Al Kitbi, His Excellency Abdullah bin Tareesh Al Kaabi, His Excellency Mohammed Al Alawi Al Dhuhoori, His Excellency Hameed Obaid Al Hammoudi, and Her Excellency Dr. Hind Al Hajri. Also in attendance were His Excellency Halima Al Owais, Deputy Chairperson of the Council, His Excellency Ahmed Saeed Al Grouwan, the Secretary-General of the Council, and Her Excellency Huda Al Hamadi, the Committee’s Secretary. Additionally, the meeting was graced by Her Excellency Mona Bint Huda Al Sweidi, Director General of the Foundation, accompanied by a delegation from the Foundation’s management and staff.

Throughout the session, the committee received an overview of the Foundation’s operations and institutional performance across various activities, with a specific focus on its initiatives for orphan care in Sharjah. The committee was briefed on the Foundation’s approach in serving its beneficiaries through a presentation highlighting key projects aimed at this important segment of society.

Challenges facing the Foundation in delivering its services were discussed, alongside efforts made and services provided to its beneficiaries, including orphans and guardians. The Family Affairs Committee commended the Foundation’s efforts in caring for and rehabilitating orphaned children, expressing gratitude for the comprehensive social and psychological support provided, elevating humanitarian efforts to encompass a holistic social dimension. Discussions and inquiries during the visit centered on the Foundation’s work and potential avenues for collaboration to further enhance the well-being of orphans and meet their needs.

Mona Bint Huda Al Suwaidi expressed gratitude for the Consultative Council’s efforts and the Family Committee’s role in reviewing the Foundation’s activities, acknowledging their support in advancing humanitarian and social work. She emphasized the Foundation’s vision of sustainable empowerment for orphans and their families, aiming to achieve comprehensive development and social welfare through attainable goals and sustainable practices.

Al Suwaidi outlined the Foundation’s commitment to empowering orphans and fostering their development into productive citizens capable of contributing positively to society. The Foundation’s programs focus on nurturing orphans in a healthy and supportive environment while preserving their dignity, aiming to cultivate promising and leadership-oriented individuals.
