SEWA secures the top position in SVA for its home conservation initiative.

The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) clinched the top spot in the Sharjah Volunteer Award (SVA) for its Home Conservation Initiative, recognized as the premier specialized volunteer initiative benefitting the community. This initiative has yielded significant positive outcomes in fostering and reinforcing humanitarian and volunteer work principles.

His Excellency Abdullah Abdulrahman Al Shamsi, the Director-General of SEWA, highlighted that the authority’s victory in the Sharjah Volunteer Award underscores its unwavering commitment to social responsibility, addressing social issues, and promoting a culture of volunteerism and community service. It also aims to cultivate a spirit of collaboration among various societal segments, enhance human values, and align with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and the Ruler of Sharjah, regarding government entities’ dedication to social responsibility and providing necessary resources for volunteer work success and goal achievement.

The pivotal role of the Sharjah Volunteer Award in reinforcing positive concepts, encouraging participation in humanitarian and volunteer efforts, and fostering competition in the realm of benevolence is duly recognized.

Al Shamsi underscored that the Home Conservation Initiative, which secured the first place in the Sharjah Volunteer Award as the preeminent specialized volunteer initiative serving the community, was launched by SEWA in line with His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi’s directives. This initiative allocated AED 20 million to assist 4,500 citizens, benefiting from the Department of Social Services, in upgrading their homes with modern, energy-efficient water and electricity technologies based on consumption studies. SEWA spearheaded the Home Conservation Initiative.

He emphasized that the initiative has achieved significant qualitative advancements by enhancing homeowners’ awareness of best practices and implementing various measures to curtail energy and water usage, along with bolstering security and safety measures. The initiative prioritizes all societal segments, particularly those encompassed within the Department of Social Services.

Furthermore, through the initiative, SEWA provided and installed conservation devices free of charge in homes, equipping them with contemporary technologies aimed at reducing electricity and water consumption. Over 81,167 conservation devices and components were installed, leading to an average 63% reduction in water consumption and a 45% decrease in lighting consumption, thereby transitioning homes into eco-friendly environments.

The award was received by Rashid Al Marzouqi, Director of the Corporate Communication Department, during the ceremony organized by the Sharjah Volunteer Award to honor the winners of its 21st edition, comprising institutions and individuals. The event was graced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, President of the Department of Statistics and Community Development in the Emirate of Sharjah, held at the theater of the International Organizations for Islamic Heritage at the Heritage Institute in Sharjah.
